Focus On: Rippled Sycamore and Wenge Coffee Table

It’s been a busy month in the workshop as Chris works hard on a new piece - keep your eyes peeled for more info on that soon! This month however, we thought it would be nice to revisit a previous project that we’re particularly proud of. Today, we’re focusing on the Rippled Sycamore & Wenge Coffee Table.

The Beginning

This Lounge table was designed and constructed in our Glasgow workshop. The piece was to be a new addition to a customers lounge that already had quite a distinct and cultivated look. The setting for this particular piece was a hundred-years old Arts and Crafts house on the outskirts of Glasgow. The interior of this lounge had a lot of geometric detail that added personality and flair. With our coffee table, we didn’t want to overpower the existing interior, so devised a plan to create something that fit perfectly.

The Process

Ideas were sketched out and a scaled model was made to show our customer what we could create for them. Then the real fun began!

Constructing this piece was an absolute treat. Using some of the finest Rippled Sycamore we have worked with yet, the sycamore surface of the coffee table was intricately connected to the underframe and finished with a Wenge peg detail - creating an effortless flow.

Completed with a delicate floating surface, the coffee table combines different elements and techniques to create a harmonious finished product.

The Finished Product

You can see more photos of the Rippled Sycamore & Wenge coffee table in its new home here. You’ll see how it merges beautifully with the decor without throwing off the balance of the room as a whole. We also constructed a Birds Eye Maple and Wenge fireplace for this room, which was designed by Anna Campbell-Jones of Habitus Interior Design, tying everything together neatly. This was a special project and we’re over the moon with how it turned out!
